Die Rohirrim, oder auch Pferdeherren genannt, sind ein Reitervolk, das in Rohan beheimatet ist. Die Bezeichnung "Rohirrim" wird hauptsächlich von Menschen außerhalb von Rohan verwendet. Die Menschen in Rohan bezeichnen sich selbst als Eorlingas, nach König Eorl den Jungen, der sein Volk nach Rohan geführt hat.

The Rohirrim, or the Horse-lords, were a horse people, settling in the land of Rohan, named after them. The name Rohirrim was mostly used by outsiders: the name they had for themselves was Eorlingas, after their king Eorl the Young who had first brought them to Rohan.
The terms Riders of Rohan and Riders of the Mark are commonly used and refer specifically to their mounted soldiers. The King's Riders were specifically the Riders who formed the bodyguard of the King.
Aussehen
Die Weiten der Steppe bestehen aus sanften, geschwungenen Hügeln, die von hohem Gras bedeckt sind. Aufgrund der trockenen Erde verwittert das Gras. Die Steppe stellt die nördlichste Grenze von Rohan dar. Das Gebiet der Steppe liegt zwischen dem Anduin und dem Fangorn. Im Norden wird die Steppe vom Fluss Limklar begrenzt. Im Süden schließt an das Gebiet der Steppe die Provinz von Ost-Emnet an.
Die Steppe ist in ihrem Zentrum baumlos und karg. Die nördliche Steppe besteht aus welligen Hügeln mit verdorrtem Gras. In der südlichen Steppe befinden sich lange Abhänge ohne Bäume. Der Boden ist dort trocken und das Gras ist kurz.
Ansiedlungen
In der Steppe gibt es drei größere Ansiedlungen: Harwick, Langhold und Flutwend. Das Ödland ist allerdings im Vergleich zu anderen Gebieten Rohans nahezu unbewohnt und wird hauptsächlich als Weideland genutzt.
